I recently read this article that explains the difference between digital literacy, non-literacy, and digital fluency. Judging from my internship experience, I found that most of the computer skills that I was teaching in class were just that: skills. These were designed to improve digital literacy (actually, not even digital literacy, more like computer literacy). What should we do as educators to address the fluency aspect? Low SES students don’t have access to computers at home, and therefore will be less literate. How can we teach fluency in this situation? Any ideas?
